A Novel Funding concept…
As far as financial assistance is concerned, Disha Pariwar has presently limited the scope of its activities to making the educational fee and educational aids available to the students. There are thousands of NGOs working in various fields. Some are engaged in projects of greater magnitude like environment, pollution control, project affected people etc. There are some NGOs which have undertaken small activities confined only to a specific topic and specific geographical area. Generous people have been giving donations to these NGOs and some of them are receiving grants from state and central Govts.
Unfortunately it is a disheartening fact that not all the NGOs are working transparently and efficiently. There are cases of misuse of funds also. Disha Pariwar did not want its working to be non transparent. Therefore, a novel concept was devised by the organization, which has an inbuilt transparency in the process and the donor is fully involved in the process.
The funding is, in brief, like this. Disha Pariwar invites applications from the needy students with details about the course desired, the fee, their financial position etc. The activists of the organization discretely verify the details and prepare a list of genuine needy students. Then donors are approached with the list and they select a student and hand over a cheque drawn in favour of the student. Such cheques are collected by the organization. A function is organized at a prominent auditorium where the students and donors are invited. The cheques are presented to the students at the hands of the donor in presence of respectable guest. The expenses like administration, printing, stationery, auditorium, charges etc are borne by the office bearers and activities of Disha Pariwar out of their own pockets.
This has been appreciated by the donors and the students and the process has encouraged more donors every passing year. Disha Pariwar just want to be a facilitator and therefore, right from its formation has not accepted any donation in its name. A perfect transparency is maintained and we feel that is the soul of an NGO.
